ARTIST BIO
Hi, welcome!
Kita is short for Marquitta.
Residing in the vibrant city of St. Louis, I passionately craft my art at my home studio. Born and bred in St. Louis, my creative journey took a detour through the charming streets of Savannah, Georgia, where I resided for four years.
My artistic foundation is nurtured by a varied mix of western animation and the realms of anime and manga. The fusion of these influences has become a hallmark of my work. I find inspiration in the creations of Genova Bowers, Anoosha Seend, Vashti Harrison, John Hendrix, Molly Idle, Yesenia Moises, Monica Arnaldo, AG Ford, and Kadir Nelson, each contributing to the mosaic of my artistic vision.
I pursued my education at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, earning an AFA in Graphic Communications. Following that, I further developed my skills at the esteemed Savannah College of Art and Design, culminating in a BA in Illustration.
I predominantly create digital art using Procreate. Additionally, I embrace traditional mediums such as watercolors, acrylics, and colored pencils. My artistic endeavors unfold as a delightful tapestry of funny, whimsical, inclusive, and diverse scenes, featuring elements like books, food, pets, people, slice-of-life moments, and a touch of light romance.
My aspirations find focus in the realm of children's literature, envisioning myself as a coveted children's book illustrator and book cover artist. The pursuit of publication fuels my artistic fire. Exhibiting my work has been a gratifying experience, with showcases at STLCC, SCAD, the Foundry Arts Center in St. Charles, and the St. Louis County Library.
Beyond personal projects, I have lent my artistic touch to a myriad of endeavors, including illustrating personal books, designing logos, crafting greeting cards, and creating event posters for a diverse array of friends, family, and clients. My artistic journey is a kaleidoscope of creativity, with each piece weaving a unique narrative that reflects my passion for storytelling through visuals.
My hobbies include exploring diverse music, playing video games, watching true crime, stand-up, and classic movies, and reading manga, mysteries, satire, and memoirs. I also enjoy cat brushing, solving puzzles, cooking, and leisurely neighborhood and park walks.
